Trustee, Gerry MacPherson Fleuriet

GERRY FLEURIET, a 12 year member and Leadership TASB graduate, has been Board President (2), Vice President (2), and Secretary. A Harlingen native and HHS graduate, she is a graduate of Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, which awarded her membership in honorary education associations Kappa Delta Epsilon and Kappa Pi.  Long a volunteer in Harlingen schools, she helped create and continues to serve the Harlingen Area Education Foundation, a business and community initiative assisting HCISD students.  She helped originate HHS Graduation Celebration and College and Career Resource Rooms, award winning programs for high school students.  Gerry serves on TASB’s Risk Management Board, and was a member of the TASB Board of Directors.  Texas PTA twice awarded her Honorary Lifetime Membership for her service, including PTA presidencies on each elementary and secondary campus attended by her children.  A former elementary teacher, Gerry also served seven years as a Community Relations Banking Officer.  She is a founder and vice president of the international EMS Harlingen Community Emergency Care Foundation.  The first RioFest Honorary Lifetime Director, she received the Texas Festivals’ Association Founders’ Award. She helped form Harlingen Main Street and Leadership Harlingen, and served on a number of community boards and committees, including Harlingen’s Capital Improvement Advisory Board. University of Texas Brownsville Development Board vice president, she co-chairs its Distinguished Lecture Series. Gerry is an elder of First Presbyterian Church, member of the Valley Baptist Health Systems’ Foundation Board, and the Harlingen Rotary Club.  A graduate of Leadership America and Leadership Texas, in 1992 she was recognized by the Zonta Club as the “Woman of the Year” and received the North Harlingen Rotary Club’s “Service Above Self” Award.  In 1998-99, the Zonta 2 Club awarded her its “Woman of Excellence for Community Service” Award.  She is the 2002 recipient of the Heritage Award from the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce for her leadership and service to the community.  Gerry and husband, attorney E. R. Fleuriet, are the proud parents of adult children Ken and Jill, both HHS and university honor graduates, and equally proud grandparents of Kellie Nicole Fleuriet, Matthew David Randolph Fleuriet, and Hazel Marie Spedding.
