Member - Place 3Mr. Eladio “Lyle” Garza was elected to the Harlingen C.I.S.D. School Board in May 2007. A product of the Harlingen public school system, he graduated from Harlingen High School in May 1988. He attended undergraduate studies at the University of Texas A&M-Kingsville while concurrently serving his country as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves from 1990-1998. He is currently completing courses towards his degree at the University of Texas in Brownsville. For the past 10 years, Mr. Garza has been actively involved in the Harlingen community. He has been passionate for causes that inspire hope and recognition for minorities, children, and families who are less fortunate. He proudly serves on the Harlingen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as Vice Chair of Fundraising, the Harlingen Housing Authority Board of Directors, and is a member of numerous school district committees, including the Building Committee and the Benefits Committee. Mr. Garza is also a member of the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and recently joined the A.C.T.S. men’s fellowship community. Mr. Garza began cultivating his strong work ethic while in high school where he worked with the H.E.B. Corporation until graduation. His professional experience includes more than twelve years in various facets of construction administration, project management, and business development in educational, commercial, institutional, and infrastructure development projects. As an advocate for public education, Mr. Garza’s goal is to lead Harlingen C.I.S.D. in a positive direction where its children feel safe, valued, and engaged in an educational environment that stimulates learning and development. “Besides our love and support, there is nothing more valuable that we can give our children than a solid education. It is their gateway to a secure and successful future,” he said. Mr. Garza brings experience with budgeting, strategic planning, and innovation to the School Board. He is excited about representing Harlingen C.I.S.D. and strongly believes in a “team approach” to Board decision-making. A 30-year resident of Harlingen, he and his wife Celina are the proud parents of two daughters, Gabriella, 5 years old and who attends Stuart Place Elementary; Patricia, 3 years old; and are proudly expecting their third child in April 2008. |
