The Employee Assistance Program is right for you if

Sometimes there are times in our lives when we have a need to talk to someone about problems that are bothering us.  Sometimes these concerns interfere with our personal lives and may even affect our ability to do our job.

As an employee of H.C.I.S.D., you have a service that can provide you with the right kind of help to solve your personal problems.  This service, the Employee Assistance Program, was initiated for two basic reasons:

  1. You, the employee, are the most valuable resource H.C.I.S.D. has; and,
  2. It makes good business sense to provide this service.  Happier, contented people are more satisfied, productive, and effective employees.
The EAP recognizes that many people and situations have the power to affect our lives.  Therefore, you, the employee, as well as your spouse and dependents, which are covered under the Valley Health Plan benefit, are eligible for EAP services.  If you have any questions about eligibility, please call the EAP office at 389 6876

Your EAP focus is on you and your needs:

1.     CONFIDENTIAL.

This program is confidential and totally voluntary.  If you choose to use the counseling service, no one at work will know you are using the service unless you tell them.  EAP professionals will contact others regarding your problem ONLY if you give them written permission to do so.

2.     FREE

The EAP is a free benefit with your Valley Health Plan coverage; therefore, there is no cost to you for the service.  Your spouse and children who are covered under Valley Health Plan are also eligible for these free EAP services.  If you determine, along with your EAP counselor, that additional outside services are needed to solve your concerns, the counselor will try to refer you to services which are the best, most appropriate service at the least cost to you.

3.     Types of assistance available

  1. Immediate help if you have a problem which is a crisis
  2. Problem assessment and evaluation to identify the major issues and develop a plan of action for change
  3. Short-term counseling addressing job-related, marital, family, children, alcohol, drugs, financial, legal, emotional, and career concerns
  4. When needed, referral to community resources and follow-up with the services you are receiving

4.     Professional Counseling Staff

EAP counselors are licensed professionals trained and experienced in helping people learn how to deal with their problems.

Reasons why the EAP can help:

Life can be a series of ups and downs and yes, we all live with some unanswered questions and unresolved concerns.  However, a problem which would probably require outside professional attention is a problem which …
  1. takes up considerable time in your thoughts, i.e. worry
  2. takes a lot of emotional energy to pretend that “it’s not that bad” or “it will get better with time” (and it hasn’t)
  3. causes you to be physically ill or overly tired… “you’ve lost your zip!”
  4. you know it is a problem, but you don’t know where to go for help
  5. you know it is a problem, but you don’t want to “rock the boat” …. it might make matters worse.
The EAP professionals can help you find a new perspective on that problem.  Personal problems, if recognized and treated early, can often be resolved quickly and easily.  Thus, H.C.I.S.D. encourages employees to seek professional help whenever these problems arise.
