INTRODUCTION

You and your partners will navigate through the internet by going to the sites that have been selected for you.  These sites will introduce you to the following "Awesome Authors":

Julius Lester
E. B. White
Gary Soto
Gary Paulsen

 Your navigating will take you into the following quadrants of each author's life.

Influence of author's life on work
Types of writing

 
TASK

Your task will be to navigate through an assigned author's life. As a group you will learn about the author's life, his works, influence of author's life on his work, and types of writing he did.    At the end of your navigating and research the members of each group will combine all the information gathered and  will report the findings to the class.
 

PROCESS

1.  You will be assigned a group.  Each group will be assigned an author.  Each person in the group will choose or will be assigned a quadrant to research in the selected sites.

2.  Click on the different web sites to gather information and view a picture of your author for your report.

3.  As you read the articles about these authors look for the following and record your findings on the worksheet which has been provided for you.  Click on "activity sheet" to print the sheet.  Each group needs only one.

a.  facts
b. opinions
c. generalizations
d. unknown words and  context clues
 

4.  When you have finished your research, you will report your findings to the class and hand in all worksheets to the teacher.

5.  After findings have been reported to the class, two groups will compare and contrast all quadrants of their two authors on the venn diagram which is provided for you. Click on "venn diagram" for copy of sheet. Report your findings to the class.

EVALUATION

You will be evaluated in two parts.  Your teacher will give you a group grade, and an individual grade on your oral presentation to the class. Click here for a copy of the "rubric" that will be used to evaluate you and your group.
