Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to give students and teachers the opportunity to discover the world of kites.

Objective:

The students will:

   discover the history of kites

   identify different kinds of kites

learn how to make your own kite

PROCESS:
There are two parts to this lesson.  The students will work in groups of 4 or 5.  In these groups they will do the following tasks:

Task #1
Identfying different kinds of kites

Each group will choose the kind of kite they'd like to learn about by using the following site:
http://www.kites.org/zoo/
http://www.education-world.com/a_lesson/lesson056.shtml

After making a decision, the group will complete the KITE PROJECT sheet.  After gathering all the information needed, they will work together to draw a picture of their kite.  Then they will show, tell about and describe their kite.

Task #2
Making Your Kite

After completing Task #1, each group will make a kite together.  They can visit the following sites for the materials and directions to help them:

Once each group has made their kite, they will display them in class.  In addition, each group will get the opportunity to fly their kite!
